What I like most about this restaurant is the food is authentic. I recommend the Bistec Encebollado Platter, Mofongo (fried plaintains), Cuban sandwich, and Chicken tenders. The sides of beans and rice are generously served too. The food is an excellent value for the money. The owner is very friendly and the service is excellent. The atmosphere is welcoming and great for being able to organize a family or small class reunion. The name takes some effort to remember but is hard to forget. The parking lot can sometimes fill up during meal times so I recommend arriving a little early or later. When I say the place is authentic--I mean that native Puerto Ricans eat here by choice and are not trapped like tourists are. Coqui was one of the more memorable restaurants I visited in Sanford.
Absolutely amazing and authentic Puerto Rican food in Seminole County! You have to place your order at the counter and you have the option of eating inside/outside the restaurant or take it to go. Best service! The gentleman that takes your order is so kind and articulate. He's patient and enjoys explaining the menu and daily specials. Their menu is concise and includes all the necessary Puerto Rican staples like acapurrias, pernil, bacalaitos, tostones, mofongo, everything! Food is cooked to order, so fresh and made with love. Highly recommend and we enjoy taking our out of town family there!
This place makes homemade authentic mofongo - really good it had those crunchy good bites and also soft at the same time M-mm! I'll say you do have to wait a bit longer than usual so anticipate that as the food is prepared then and there. I wasn't a big fan of the roast pork I ordered more of a garlicky person for pork but I ordered my son the bbq spare ribs and that was highly tasty and fall off the bone tender, I would recommend it. They had it on the menu specials so it was also only 10 bucks with 2 sides so I thought it well worth it. Rice and beans count as 1 side too which was a plus. The beans were a bit cold (not my fav thing) but the flavor still gave me the Latin tastes I was craving. Last but not least the alcurpurria was YUM-AY! One my throw back nostalgia foods, and they make it just like your in PR again! Mm!
Loved this place! Leaving Sanford airport, we were starving and as a native Floridian living in Utah, my first stop was the closest Puerto Rican restaurant with good reviews and Jay at Coqui did not disappoint! He was super helpful with explaining all of their specials and the food was amazing! Highly recommend!
Oh my goodnessssss. We were on our way to the Sanford airport and sought out Yelp to help us find a nearby shop to grab a Cuban sandwich we had a hankering for. I could not be more pleased with our choice. We got our sandwich to go and it was heavenly! The bread was the perfect amount of soft yet firm to hold the delicate tender pork on the inside! The melty cheese, the decadent pork, the salty ham and pickles made for the best lunch! It really hit the spot.
Coqui is a small simple restaurant as far as appearance goes, but my abuela's house was small and simple too, and honestly the food this place puts out is the closest I've found to hers! Believe me when I say, that is the highest compliment I could ever give. Jay, the front of the house half of the owner duo is so friendly and makes you feel at home. His wife Teresa is the master chef who leads a team of ladies in the kitchen that make EVERYTHING from scratch and made to order. While sitting here eating lunch today a man walked in and said I drove from Apopka, just for your alcapurrias, cause they're that good! I have been here well over a dozen times over the last few years, and I have never once witnessed an unhappy customer. Jay and Teresa are the type of people who deserve great success because their love and passion coves through in everything they do in this restaurant. Thank you so much for giving this community delicious, authentic Puerto Rican food
Loved the food. We ordered a Beef Patty, 2 alcapurias and 1 Sorullito de maíz (sweet corn with cheese). Everything was delicious. They also carry cola champagne. I would definitely return for the food.
Came here a few weeks ago per granma's suggestion. I'm just gunna say it , OMG DELICIOUS. every single thing we ordered from the arroz con gandules (not pictured) to the mofongo to the damn flan was made to order and had an outrageous amount of flavor. If you're ever in Florida , please stop by Coqui to satisfy your craving for authentic Puerto Rican food. 10/10
I've only had the beef empanadas from here, but they are outstanding. They're stuffed with beef and perfectly seasoned. I was asked if I wanted sauce on the side and I chose garlic. It was pretty busy, so be prepared to wait. I waited approximately 20mins for three empanada's. When I got to the car I noticed there was a tiny container of garlic sauce for my three huge empanadas, so I went inside to ask if I could have another. I could tell he was annoyed by the request which made me slightly uncomfortable and confused me at first as he was so kind when taking my order. The place is pretty small so I felt like everyone was staring at us. The man explained sauce does not come with empanadas and they charge .50 per sauce. He said he would give it to me free this time which I greatly appreciated, but I have no problem paying for sauce, I just wasn't aware there was a charge at all based on our interaction when I ordered. He noted the mild ketchup sauce is very popular so I will be trying that one next time! The food is great and I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt so I'm not going to knock any stars off for the "sauce interaction".
